Quran Intro Page - (Iran XVI) (Daily deviation) by somk Quran Intro Page - (Iran XVI) (Daily deviation) by somk
Wow, people ! A DD <3

It touches me to see how this is appreciated by muslims and non muslims alike! This means a lot to me.
This really is a universal message. Trying to touch true beauty and peace through patience and work is a humbling experience and a marvellous path to walk :)  so... Thank you, all of you, everywhere! <3

================== Aaaaand back to our original programming :

My take on reproducing this beautiful double page

"Traditional Islamic ornament is eminently functional -- but its function is not utilitarian.
It seeks to compensate for the spiritual losses of civilization by re-establishing something of the primordial beauty of virgin nature, and to transport the viewer from immersion in the mundane to serene contemplation.
Islamic design can be a form of visual music; the repetition and rythm of its motifs establish an inner sense of balance and act as a visual extension of the invocatory remembrance of the Divine." - (Daud Sutton)

It reads "If men and jinn combined to produce a book akin to this Koran, they would surely fail to produce its like, though they helped one another as best they could"

Double intro pages of Iranian Quran (16th century)
Size of each page is 17x26cm
Gold leaf, lapis-lazuli, various dyes and pigments on walnut stained paper.

In progress picts can be found here :…

Edit sept 29th: aaaaand sold! (but 8x10 PRINTS available here… )

Amazing illumination which is breathtakingly beautiful even for those who may not care about the Quran.

Wow! This is stunning. I dropped by your table at Loncon yesterday & I'm only just now looking through the other work you have completed. I am in awe.

I love that you used walnut & lapis lazuli - original pigments for Persian illumination. May I ask where you found the original 16C Quran you worked from?
